Drake Passage by this time tomorrow!

Friday, 27-Jan-2023, 10:30pm Argentina time Quieter day today than yesterday. We all slept in or tried to sleep in. After lunch, the girls decided to take a long walk to the other side of the water by the port. The walk wound up being about 3 hours, and they made it basically all the way to the airport. They took some very nice pictures, I will try to appropriate some and post them here. I declined the long walk, wanting to save my bad feet as much as possible for Antarctic festivities (not to mention being over twice their age). I took a short walk near the hotel after lunch, then spent most of the afternoon getting my online blog up to date, and fighting with some websites on my laptop. Apparently if Yahoo, FB, Google, etc. detect that you're trying to login from an Argentinian IP address, you suddenly learned to speak and read Spanish.  Our hotel, Las Lengas Small, hilly park across the street from our hotel, Plaza Mozart Lake and mountains, looking down the street from our hote...

Exploring Ushuaia

Thursday, 26-Jan-2023 7:00pm Argentina time After a decent night's sleep and some breakfast we spent the better part of today at a very cool museum that Mel and Colleen found. Museo Maratimo de Ushuaia was about a 15 minute cab ride from our hotel. On our way there, looking down the cross streets toward the water and port reminded me a little of San Francisco. It's actually several museums in one. The building is a big former prison with five 2-story wings. Each floor of each wing was a different museum. The building was left configured as a prison. The bars were left on the windows. The guard stands overlooking the dining area / gym were all still there. The cells in most wings had the walls repaired, painted, and had the doors removed. Made it to Usuiaia!

Wednesday 25-Jan-2023, 8:00pm Argentina time Finally made it to Ushuaia, after just over 30 straight hours of travel for Mel and Colleen, and jut under 30 hours for me. They started at 9:00am central time yesterday, I started at 12:30pm eastern time. I'm glad we booked a couple extra nights in Ushuaia to recover, then explore a little. The flight in was a little amazing. I didn't know it was such a mountainous area. We approached the airport over water, and the plane got pretty low before we saw any signs of an airport. The Ushuaia airport reminded me of the Rockford airport, near Chicago. Two gates, two baggage carrousels. After settling into the hotel, we walked to a restaurant, that I guess is in downtown Ushuaia. It was a 10 minute walk, but because of the uneven terrain, there is a step (or more) in the sidewalk about every 10 feet. In Buenos Aires, most announcements and menus were in both English and Spanish. Not much English down here in Ushsaia.    View from our hotel...
